Her clinical work at TJUH focuses on cognitive and neurodegenerative disorders in older adults though she evaluates people across the adult spectrum. Areas of particular interest in which she does not claim expertise include Lewy body dementia, dementia caregiver/care partner issues, and young-onset dementias. She values increasing her knowledge and bettering her practice around equity and accuracy in neuropsychological evaluation of culturally diverse individuals, and those in the queer and gender-diverse community. She considers identifying and addressing her own implicit biases as of utmost importance in this process. In her free time, she enjoys smooching pit bulls, listening to punk music, being forced on outdoor excursions with her loving spouse (and ultimately loving the experiences), and antiquing. Research interests include ethical normative data selection, aging in Black LGBTQIA2S+ populations, perioperative cognitive decline, and predictors of cognitive decline in older adults. She is committed to supporting the need for paradigmatic changes within the field to become more internally and externally valid, equitable, and just, particularly as this applies to practicing neuropsychology within the Black diaspora and supporting Black trainees. Towards that end, Dr. Read mentors neuropsychology trainees/medical students and serves several national and local neuropsychology organizations. She recognizes the systemic barriers that impacts individuals, minimally from a socio-economic standpoint, which subsequently impacts cognitive development. Thus, her goal as chair for the PNS equity forum is to host a supportive space for navigating the ever changing dynamics that impact us as clinicians, the field of neuropsychology, our patients, and the community at large. She also aspires to collaborate with PNS members to take actionable steps to increase support, advocacy, and education related to brain health equity in racially, culturally, ethnically, linguistically, and sexual and gender diverse individuals within the greater Philadelphia region. Let’s explore ways to make our community a healthy and safe space for all through your active engagement in the PNS Equity Forum!
